Holiday Ready: Organized Christmas

  • Holiday Ready: Organized Christmas

As we finish eating our Thanksgiving leftovers & have begun pulling out the Christmas decorations from the attic for our first Christmas in our new home I find myself making mental notes on what I’m buying, where I’m getting my garland, bows & ribbon, what  I’m hanging first- the lights or the garland… all to make next year’s Christmas even better! You see, I often am looking 10 steps ahead while I’m in the first stages of preparing for anything whether I’m hosting a dinner party for 6 or decorating my house for the holiday season I constantly use the current task at hand to make the next dinner, event or chore easier the next time around. And with all the hustle & bustle of the holiday season I take this organizing thing to the next level.

Here are some things I do to help my life & my family’s a little simpler when it comes to prepping for the holidays.

Decorating: I make an evening out of making hot spiced cider, lighting a fire & letting all of our Thanksgiving guests help pick out the Christmas tree & wreath & then decorate the tree all together the day after Thanksgiving. It gets everyone involved & in the holiday spirit. You share the meaning of some of your ornaments which makes for great conversation starters.

Houseguests: As soon as Thanksgiving guest have gone, I start with all of the bath linens. Wash & fold & return to their homes for the Christmas guests arrival. Then onto the bedding. This year I’m creating a welcome basket for my holiday guests with earplugs, a candle, aromatherapy oil and a comfy pair of holiday socks to wear around my house.

Table setting: I just started looking today for ideas for my Christmas table. I love using colors that are already in my home so this Christmas my table will be full of navy, rosemary sprigs, gold & rose gold, as well as a succulent center piece.

For me this holiday season, now more than ever before is about enjoying the time spent with my friends and loved ones and making sure their stay at our home whether for the evening or for a weekend is cozy, memorable and priceless. So follow along with me as I spend the next 23 days getting ready for Christmas Break!

Tomorrow I’ll be discussing gathering my holiday goods & deciding what is needed to give the home a theme and feel warm & cozy.
